Born on the 31st of December, 1953 in Wellington in the Cape Province, South Africa.
Frank started his working life as a supervisor at Metal Box, making cans for the fruit canning industry. After being retrenched in 1990, he turned his hand to painting, working with Solomon Siko and others who inspired him to develop his own unique style of working.
He paints his native Boland Valley almost compulsively – working with vibrant colours portraying the homesteads, vineyards and towering mountains. People permeate all of the work, Boland labourers toiling in the vineyards, women carrying wood trudging wearily home after a day’s work., children at play amongst their tin shack homes. Strong southern sunsets streak the sky.
His work falls within a tradition of generic art that is universally valid. He has participated in many group and solo exhibitions. Private collections include SA National Treasury, Pretoria and Fedsure, Cape Town as well as many private collectors worldwide.
